    " Would a broken reed valve show up as lost compression? This is on a 20 HP Mercury, '67 model. "

    Nope! The compression is measured as the piston reaches the top of its stroke. The reeds are behind the carbs. What is the problem with the motor?

    Jim...Aaron and Sparky are correct but keep in mind if a reed valve breaks and passes through a cylinder it could cause a loss of compression...DJ
