Our mechanic says our trim swi

Our mechanic says our trim switch is bad I was wondering how hard it would be to replace it myself it is on a DPX375
 
"not hard. Buy the swich, take

"not hard. Buy the swich, take it out of the dash, and change one wire at a time to the new swich. Then put it back in the dash.
Or, if it is on the shifter, do the same thing. Easy electrical stuff.
Why does he say the switch is bad. Wgat's it doing or not doing?"

"Hi Eric its not the gage its the sending unit at the outdrive what it does is let me know when the trim is down however once I start to bring it up the gage will jump all the way to the top, every once and a while it will work and show the true position."
