"Well, I got this boat for a good deal and the volvo engine purrs like a kitten. I had a mechanic do a full tune up and everything has either been repaired or replaced in the last year. So, my only problem is the engine will always stall when I slowly accerlerate, (as oppossed to hitting the throttle hard and the thing runs great) ALso it seems to idle and start up fine. Now, I had the carb rebuilt twice by so-called professional marine mechanics and they cannot fix it. I was told by yet another mechanic that something is probably clogging up the "slow idle screw/port" and the rebuilds did not address that issue.

I think I need another carb without this peculiar issue, are there any available?

Based on what I heard about these volvo car engines, they seem to be indestructible, assuming regular maintenance, so I really want to fix this issue because it otherwise runs great!

Any reccomendations?"

"Yeah, it is grit in the jet or passage leading thereto. Dump a load of carb cleaner into the fuel tank."

"If that doesn't work, remove the air cleaner and locate the idle jet. Remove the jet and check the ports with a #72 drill bit. Blow compressed air into the drilled passages including the passage which is visible on top of the carburetor. Screw the idle jet in FIRMLY but do not crush it. A loose jet can cause problems."

"Ya, throw the carb in the trash, theyre crap. I've been trying to fix/replace mine for 5 years. Its been rebuilt by 2 carb shops twice each, vintage volvo specialist 3 times, me once and a marine mechanic once. Garbage... I've been posting on every damn discussion board in every english speaking country in the world and can't get anyone to answer simple questions about these carbs, especially the one: CAN YOU REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER CARB AND MANIFOLD!!!!"

"The Solex is NOT a bad carb.

"The Solex is NOT a bad carb. It does have a personality, and it will have a "flat spot" during slow acceleration around 1100 RPM. Simply advance the throttle thru this RPM-range more rapidly...or readjust your accelerator pump to deliver more spray at this throttle position."
