"LIke the title says, I want to switch my VP 280B sterndrive with a 250 drive. Is this a direct bolt on replacement?"
 
Make sure the ratio's are

Make sure the ratio's are the same and steering helmet fasteners will work but why would you want to do that? The 280 is a stronger drive although it basically looks the same except for the exhaust and P/S length.

"b/c I can get a good deal on a 250...and my 280 leaks...I think it would cost me more to have the 280 repaired, than it would to buy the 250...but if the p/s and exhaust are different, I think I'll pass...I am trying to get the most out of the boating season here in NJ..."
