"99 regal 1700 lsr 4 cyl ran a

"99 regal 1700 lsr 4 cyl ran all day pulling tube and just normal running.started and idled out of about 150 to 200 yard no wake , turned off motor set about 30 min now it will not start. can give gas while starting and will rev up one time than dies.unsure where to start."

"chevy 4 cyl with a volvo penta sx outdrive. new fuel pump, carb reworked last year. heads reworked last year new gaskets on engine. spark plugs looked burnt from rich fuel burn but all firing. was told somthing about exuast manifolds? not sure what to look for though"

"Not knowing the year or model, I am making the assumption that the engine has a mechanical fuel pump.

To troubleshoot the fuel system, disconnect the suction line from the fuel tank, then hook-up a jerrycan with fresh fuel and try to start the engine. If it starts, your problem is between the fuel pump and the gas tank (stuck anti-syphon valve, water, clogged filter, etc). If no changes, make sure the fuel pump is pumping fuel and that the pressure is correct (5-7 psi) and that there is no fuel coming through the plastic hose between the pump and the carb (if it is, that wouold indicate a ruptured diaphraghm). If all OK but still no start, then check that the carb is not loose, that the flame arrestor is clean, that the linkages, etc are OK, that the fine fuel filter is not clogged, and that the electric choke is working.

If none of that cures the problem, you may want to check that the ignition timing is correct."
