"I have a 1973 65HP Evinrude.

"I have a 1973 65HP Evinrude. Out of the water using a water boot the engine runs great. Once you put the boat in and attempt to pull a water skier the engine tends to bog down on take off and will typically kill. I am a bit intimidated by the making any adjustments to the three carbs. Is there a simple step by step process to adjusting these engines? Is this a lean condition on take off resulting in a power loss?

"Sounds like an old engine I had once with low compression...the cylinders where shot. Worked great in the tub or driveway, but once you put it under a load...forget it. I'm looking to replace the head on the Johnson 65 I've got now. Let me know if you want to part it out."
