Replaced old alt with 1 wire t

Replaced old alt with 1 wire type. Old alt
would not gen more than 6-8 volts even at high
RPM. New one just barely gets to 12 volts even
though under load. Any thoughts?

Yes. Put a good VOM (meter) on the battery and see whats really happening.

I'm assuming you're going by the boat's volt meter? Notoriously unreliable!
