"Thanks to everyone here for the tips and advice on troubleshooting my aq125a/270 overheat problem.

It turned out to be the intake fitting on my 270. Now runs at 200F at planning speeds. Still weeps a little antifreeze, maybe a tablespoon over a few hour cruise. Got a few small mussle shells that got sucked up through the hole in the flange that ended up in the raw water strainer. Seem to be clear now. Runs great. about 18-19mph at 4200-4400 well trimmed. Not bad for a 2270 Explorer at 4200 pounds dry weight.

Thanks again, especially El Pescador, for his clear diagrams and part numbers.
