Merc 75 hesitant acceleration after idle

"After idleing, on acceleratio

"After idleing, on acceleration, 86' 75hp drags and , if throttle is not pulled back, dies. If bulb is pumped while engine is dragging, after a few seconds engine will catch and run at full throttle fine. Also engine will not idle long before dying (but accelaration is smooth in neutral). Had same problem last year and shop replaced fuel line from tank to engine. Its frustrating because its apparently difficult to duplicate in shop. Is this a fuel pump problem or carb? or what?"

"Thomas, if pumping the bulb helps that may be indicative of a bad fuel pump (since you are manually taking over that function).

I would check the fuel filter and water separator (if present) - if they look good, concentrate on the fuel pump...."
