Thoughts on new 4stroke vs old 2stroke

"I've got a mid-80's Evinrude 2hp 2-stroke that I use on a canoe. It runs okay and has adequate power but is pretty loud.

I've had my eye on the new Honda BF2...

which is also 2hp but is 4-cycle and air cooled (no water pump to ever rebuild). Of course, being a Honda it's expensive. It would also run cleaner than my old 2-stroke.

I guess I'm looking for some insight on new, small 4-stroke motors. I've heard a couple boats with ~10hp motors that were EXTREMELY quiet but don't know if that's attributed to being larger motors or 4-stroke or what.

Any input?

Thanks in advance,
Matt"

Everybody loves the 4-strokes

Everybody loves the 4-strokes (most of them are new).Years from now we will see what is repairable and what is throwaway. Not sure if the 4 strokes use timing belts and if they are "clearance" engines as far as valves are concerned.Imagine pistons hitting valves at 5000-RPM.A 30 year old two stroke can usually be rebuilt but a 4 stroke has more parts to go wrong.
