How do you replace the alterna

How do you replace the alternator belt on the 5.0 Cobra?

"I would think you just loosen

"I would think you just loosen off the upper alternator bolt in the adjustment bracket and tilt it towards the engine to slack off the tension on the belt, replace belt and using a small pry bar tilt the alt away from the engine to put tension on it and tighten the bolt (or is this a trick question

"if the 5.0 is like mine, then

"if the 5.0 is like mine, then (as discussed in other threads) you need to take off a bracket spacer that spans the engine and the front mount so that you can slide out the old belt and slide in the new belt. Otherwise, it's captive behind the engine mount.

I have had great success with a few pieces of scrap wood and an ordinary scissor jack. take the pressure off the engine and then remove one bolt and the spacer will drop out. make the belt switch and then put the bolt back in. DO NOT mess with the engine mounting adjustment.

I'm assuming that all OMC mounts are similar - this is how i change my 3.0L (1991) - you need to test this assumption."
