Motor moves steering doesnbt motor mounts

I have a 1987 Evinrude 150 on

I have a 1987 Evinrude 150 on a 1987 Allison 21ft. bass boat. Have a lot of chine walking. My motor will move approx. 1 inch each way without the steering moving. The foot or leg of the motor will move but the yoke or part that mounts to the transom doesn't. How do you fix this problem?

" Troy.... That problem is usually due to the splines being faulty on the lower portion of the steering arm. That would be the portion where the lower motor mount bracket attaches to the steering arm.

The cure is to remove the lower unit, then remove the top and lower motor mount bolts, and move the engine assy away from the swivel bracket/steering assy.

At that point, you can remove the large nut that retains the lower motor mount bracket, then remove the bracket so that the splines can be inspected..... and whatever splined part(s) is/are faulty can then be replaced.
