"Hey, I recently purchased a brand new Mercury four stroke 8hp outboard. After using it four or five times (with no problems) I couldn't get it to start (despite substantial numbers of attempts). Someone at the marina told me that there are flooding problems associated with this type of engine. Is that so? If so, how can I avoid them in the future?

"Jared I don't have a mercury but I was told that how you position some of these 4strokes for transport is important to prevent oil leaks. Either straight up and down or (in my case Yami) lay down on tiller side, I think Johnsons are the non tiller side etc. Anyways I was told improper positioning could cause similar problems of poor performance. Other than that some of the guys here have some great ideas I'm sure."
