Newbe gasoil mix question

"motor = 1964 johnson super se

"motor = 1964 johnson super sea horse 40hp.

top sticker inside engine cover says "fuel mixture (after run in) 1 pint of oil to 6 gal of gasoline (ratio 1 to 50)"

sticker under that says -starting instructions-"fuel mix 1 US qt. outboard or S.A.E. 30 oil per each 6 US gal. of reg. gasoline (ratio 1 to 24)"

does that mean my choice of 50:1 using 2 cycle oil or, 24:1 using 30 s.a.e. motor oil?"

"The 1964 40hp Johnson was manufactured before the 50/1 oil came into the picture.

However, due to the design of the 40hp model (all needle, roller, and/or ball bearings), it can safely use the 50/1 fuel/oil mixture."
