"I have a merc 470 that when I throttle up the engine it stalls out. If I slowly accellerate the engine, I can get the boat up on plane. I have rebuilt the carb twice now and I have switched the distributor from points to electronic ignition. None have solved this problem. I also noticed that this happens under load and without load. I have checked the timeing and at idle I am about 8' btdc and upon slow accelleration that advance seems to retard properly. I am now looking at the possibility of the fuel pump giving the carb too much fuel, but I'm not sure. Any help will be appreciated."
