I have a 1983 mariner s/n 695

I have a 1983 mariner s/n 695 S 000257. It is referred to as a 25 C. Been told that it is a Yamaha built for european market. I have trouble chasing down proper part #s. Should I consider this a Yamaha or a Mariner? Thanks

"Dean, you should consider it

"Dean, you should consider it a Mercury product. Yes, it was completely built by Yamaha, but it's still a Merc (Mariner dressed).

Merc "had" all the parts for it. You may be able to get the odd item from Yamaha if they can cross ref something for you.

Merc had quite a relationship with Yamaha for a long time. Yamaha builds the greatest number of outboards of any manufacture.

For a number of years every thing in Merc's line (including North American model Mariners) that were 25 horses or less were built with Yamaha powerheads and lower gears. I own 3 of these myself - but make no mistake - they were built for Merc to Merc specs and that's who supports them.

In the case of the Japanese Mariners, who has pretty much stopped supporting them too....."
