"I have a 1968 LM 318 in a Ski Nautique. Three summers ago I put in a Petronix electronic conversion kit. The boat has always run strong.

Last night after about one hour of use the engine shut down while the boat was on plane. No coughing or sputtering, just an immediate shut down. It started immediately, I ran it some more (back towards the ramp) and the engine shut down two more times before I could get it on the trailer.

I'm wondering if it is the coil? I did not replace it when I put the conversion kit in. Any other thoughts?

"Yah, that's a coil symtom

"Yah, that's a coil symtom. Coils are rarely a problem but when they do go bad and if they don't go out completely, failing as the engine warms up is a classic sign."
