"When I run my boat, temp gauge slowly rises to the point of over 240 and keeps going.I've checked engine with temp gun and reads from 170-180.Is my gauge bad or is it grounding out somewhere? Also, just replaced temp sender. Thanks for the help. bryan"

"Have you checked the resistan

"Have you checked the resistance reading from the sending unit? On mine the values are 140 degrees -> 121-147 ohms, 194 degrees -> 47-55 ohms, and 212 degrees 36-41 ohms. You will also see a short or open pretty quickly with a meter.
Good Luck"

"Did the gauge act the same be

"Did the gauge act the same before the new sender? If no, bad new sender. If yes, replace the gauge."

"There are different temp send

"There are different temp sender ranges. You probably have a gauge that requires a sender in the 100-220 range. If you replaced it with a 100-250 sender, the gauge will read high. I just had the same problem recently and simply replaced the gauge to match the sender - had a hard time finding a 100-220 sender to match the original gauge.
Sorry if this posts twice - goofed up sending it.
Mike"
