I have dual

I have dual controllers and one of them seams to be stuck in the throttle position. I pushed the button on the side to take it out of gear mode and now it seems it will not release. The buttom seems to have released but it will not shift into forward or reverse.

Any ideas?

This is a 2005 5.0 gxi motor. Only 66 hrs."
 
I believe I found the problem.

I believe I found the problem. I took apart the controller and found that the plastic piece that holds the cable in place is broken. It is my understanding that this happened because my cable is bad.

Is replacing the cable something that a novice should undertake or should I let wait for a mechanic?

"That's most likely the case. What you have to do now is disconnect the cable from the shifter in the othdrive, put both the shifter and the control in neutral, then connect the cable to the shifter adjusting it as required."
