"I have what seem to be contradictory problems with the cooling system.

First, I've replaced the impeller, the manifolds and risers, the thermostat housing and the thermostat (160 degrees). There is lots of raw water coming in through the intake hose.

The problem is, the engine is running cool. About 100 degrees. The risers and manifolds are cool, as is the hose from the thermostat housing to the water pump. This started today. Yesterday, running the boat for the first time after installling the new parts as well as an oil pan and starter motor, the temp was a normal 160.

The engine runs cool, but on the other hand, the exhaust pipes seem very hot above idle speed. Too hot to touch for more than a second or two.

I'm not sure how hot the exhaust pipes are supposed to get. I replaced the manifolds/risers because the hoses on the starboard side melted due to clogged channels there. The riser also got very hot then. I'm wary about something like that happening again.

So, the exhaust pipes seem very hot, but the engine, manifolds and risers are running cool.

Anyone have any insights?"
