"The 1-wire Delco alternator in my boat went. My buddy gave me a 78 AMP 3-wire alternator. From what I have read you can use this alternator as a 2-wire as long as a 12V switched ignition line is run to terminal #1 on the alternator. My Clymer manual states a diode must be installed on the line to prevent damage to the alternator's diode trio.

Where can I pick up a diode?

It appears that the #2 terminal "senses battery voltage" therby regulating alternator output. Should I run a wire from #2 back to the battery, jump #2 to the large post on the alternator, or just leave the terminal bare?

Thanks for the help!"
