1979 Sea King 4hp water cooled

"Hi everyone, I am getting my

"Hi everyone, I am getting my dads old 1979 4 hp Sea King (by crysler) running again, just rebuilt carb and put new points in and it runs like a champ except not alot of water is coming out the pee hole. Does this engine have a water pump or an impeller, or is that the same thing? If so how do you acccess it. thanx for any help."

"Impeller is just the "pump" part of the water pump assembly.

You will find the assembly in the top portion of the lower unit (the drive shaft runs through it and provides the "power" for the impeller).

Remove any bolts (could be between 3 and 6) that are fastening the lower unit to the "leg". And disconnect the shift shaft (if equipped - sorry not overly familiar with this particular model) and then the lower end should separate, the drive shaft will come with it..."

"Thanx for your response. After reading the owners manual (which I just found) it may be working just fine. Manual said water should come out the same hole as the exhaust, which it is doing. This is definatly different than my newer evinrude."
