"I have a 1976 dixie classic with a volvo penta 280 outdrive. My battery was ripped from the boat, leaving me with wires that need to be repaired. Unfortunatly, the motor is in the down position and can't be towed. How can I manually tilt the motor so I can get it to the shop? HELP!!!!!

Default "ask the shop if you can borro

"ask the shop if you can borrow their trailering clip to hold it up. if not, use a 2x4, or similar. release the reverse lock by pulling down, and it will lift easily. BE CAREFULL. it is heavy. keep hands out of the way. also can damage drive if dropped."

"If a 280 is anything like a 275, there's a little 12VDC motor that lowers and raises the lower unit. I blew a fuse on my tilt circuit at the lake last month and just jumpered the motor directly to the battery to raise and lower it so I could get back on the trailer and back home. One polarity raises and reverse polarity lowers."
