"I'm just looking for some general tips. Right now the engine works great, but it is run in salt water. How often should I flush it with fresh water? Where do I plug in the hose? Do I need ears for that motor? I have to get the model number off the engine so I can order the service manual from this site.

"Flush it every time it comes

"Flush it every time it comes out of the water - and yes, get a flushing device for it. It fits nicely over the water intakes.

Also, hose down the lower unit and anything else with salt-spray. Salt absolutely eats outboards.

And if ever you think it won't hurt to leave it just "this once" keep this picture in your mind - a hole is almost completely burned through the cavitation plate on the far side of the pic...

Thanks for the tip! I'll flush it with fresh water as often as I can and rinse off the motor too. Naturally I lift the motor out of the water after each use as well. Now to get a flush-kit and some salt-away!
