I am trying to customize the steering for someone who is paralyzed. The steering will be electronic and I was thinking about switching ON/OFF solenoids connected to hydraulic lines ( to turn right and left). Would this work and what kind of pump would I need? Could I use the helm as a pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

"I picked up a Hyd. Pump that was used for a RayMarine Auto-pilot,....
It was plumbed In-line with the Hyd. helm.....
While it made the normal steering extremely Hard to turn,+ this is the reason it was pulled from service......

I'm thinkng of using it for a Houseboat Project of mine,.....
I see ditching the Helm altogether,+ just using a toggle switch, Joystick control for it....

It's a pretty Simple system with no extra solenoids,....
Just a Pump that is powered 1 way or the other....electrically that is....

If you could find a copy of this Pump,....
It would be Perfect for what you're trying to do......"
