Diesel conversion for sailboat

I'm to the point where it

I'm to the point where it's time to throw in the towel with my old gas engine. What makes of diesels are the most dependable? Quiet?. My boat is a 32ft sailboat. Is there any advantage to going to 4 cylinders as opposed to 3? Names that popped up so far are Yanmar and Universal.
