"Hey everyone, I've been researching online for answers but can't seem to find any. I recently purched a 16' Basstracker with a 1993 Mercury 40hp. The engine's throttle won't fully engage when pressed forward. It runs fine in reverse and at very slow speeds. When my Father and I checked the throttle parts in the engine we found that a rod(no idea of the official name) was bent and found a metal plate and broken nut on the bottom. This rod is 'L' shaped and looks to attatch to some type of cam? When the throttle is moved forward by hand the throttle fully engages, but due to the rod being bent it will not engage by itself. Can anyone give me the 'official' names of these parts? And perhaps a little overview on just how long this will take to repair...and how much $$$

"I have included a diagram from Merc. If the rod you are referring to is #5 in the picture,it is an easy fix (just replace). It is available from any Merc dealer for under 20 bucks.

"Yes #5 is the bar I was speaking of.

Have these bars been known to wear down over time? The engine is 15 years old

Thank you so much for that diagram, this should make things a lot easier.
