" Hi I have a 140TL77S Evinrud

" Hi I have a 140TL77S Evinrude Motor. I know very little about marine motors however I do know that the lower unit is cracked. A gentleman is selling his lower unit off of a motor with the model # 140743S. Does anyone know if this lower unit is compatible with my motor? Or how do I tell if a lower unit is compatible? Also any information regarding my motor would also be appreciated. Thank you, jp "

" JP..... Both the 140TL77S and 140743S engines are 1977 140hp Evinrudes. As long as the shaft length is the same, they should interchange.

Is there an easy way for me to determine the shaft length on my motor or on the lower unit he is selling...such as some sort of cross reference that can be used?

"JP..... Since you need to remove your lower unit anyway, simply measure from the top surface of the lower unit to the top of the driveshaft splines, then have the seller do the same.
