Mariner steering is tight

i have a mariner outboard 150

i have a mariner outboard 150 hp. is there a standard way to loosen the tension on the steering. also do i need to lubricate the steering cable or anything. sorry but im very new to this. if a model number is required i will search the motor for it. thanks for any help

"Mike, Usually the steering cables cannot be lubricated. You can lubricate the steering cable rod, which goes through the motor's tilt tube. First check is to disconnect the steering link and try to pivot the motor. if the motor pivots easily, the cable is obviously binding. Try to extend the steering rod and clean any rust or dirt and relubricate. You may need to turn the wheel many times and wipe the rod many times to get it clean, all the way through the tilt tube."
