"I have a 2000 40 hp Yamaha 4 stroke F40TRY.I had followed the same winterizing routine ,draining carbs,tank,etc. Put boat in water the other day,started o.k. warmed up engine moved control lever forward and started to accelerate,when I reach 1/2 throttle the engine dies.If I leave control lever at 1/2 throttle engine will stop,if I pull it back to neutral it will keep running. If I accelerate quickly to full throttle there is no problem engine runs perfect. Runs o.k. in reverse. Checked gas for water o.k.,engine runs smooth at idle. Runs wide open for about 20 minutes o.k. Water pump o.k. Could there be a problem with the safety switch in the control lever box. Need help fishing season is here."
