"First thing first. I just bought this boat and noticed that while at high speeds, the engine sounds and runs great. When I drop to roughly 3000 rpm it starts to "knock" and "ping". I have tried different ethanol and carb additives but it has not help. In addition, I am having a problem getting finding the neutral position. Today, it started to clunck into forward and reverse with high idleing in neutral intermittently. Could this be a linkage issue? If so, how do I adjust?

"if u are hearing a knock and ping at 3000 rpm w/the cowling on,....u have more problems than fuel...get it to a good boat shop ASAP,to evaluate.,that is a great engine,and from here,..it sounds like u have internal problems,are u may just be hearing something rattling at 3000,in either case,this needs to be determined for sure."
