I noticed today that my temp g

I noticed today that my temp gauge would read normal(170) but would the jump up to 195/200 for a split second and then return to normal for a while. I noticed this several times. I have a 2004 3.0 mercruiser. Raw water cooled. For the last 4 seasons the temp always read around 170/175

"Tom: It sounds like you have some crud like dirt, rust and scale breaking loose in the block and briefly jamming the T'stat. You can pull the T'stat housing and flush the block. Also backflush the water inlet hose in the event some algae was living in the hose, dried out and now is breaking loose and getting into the engine.

Ever replaced the impeller? 4 yrs. is time for that service. You may have an impeller that is throwing rubber chunks into the T'stat.
