"I have recently acquired a boat with a 1985 Johnson V4 140. I was told the powerhead was replaced at some point and this appears to be so given how clean the powerhead is relative to the rest of the motor. The VRO system has never been connected on this motor. My question concerns sparkplugs.
The sparkplug chart suggests using Champion QL77JC4 plugs but the plugs that are currently in the motor are Champion QL82CY. The motor seems to run fine with these plugs. Should the plugs be changed for the QL77JC4 plugs or because the VRO is disconnected, are the QL82 plugs the right ones? I noticed that the chart specified the QL82s were an optional plug for cross-flow V4s.
If use of the QL82s as an alternative is OK, what gap should be used?
