"It is definitely the end piece (I have it off). The twist grip attaches to a metal shaft, and on the other end is the knucle gear. I need to disassemble: how can I remove the gear? Is it pressure fitted?

"Thanks for the replies, but I got it apart. The metal rod inside the shaft can be pushed out from the twist grip end, toward the gear end, with the gear attached.
This is fine for cleaning and freeing it up."
