1977 mercruiser 470 outdrive compatability question

My outdrive on my boat went. I

My outdrive on my boat went. I found a small crack on the lower unit housing. After tearing it apart I found There is a bearing ou on the upper half and the lower end is shot. My question is This is of a 1977 3.7 470. I believe it is a pre alpa outdrive? I can get a mercruiser 165 pre alpa outdrive of of a 1978 boat. Will this bolt up? I also see a few outdrives for the older 140 mercruisers. Are these also the same? The serial # on my outdrive is 4527560.

"Thanks for the information. If I did put one of the outdrives from like a 120 on it. Is it possible to compinsate by putting a differant pitch prop on it? Or will it basically self distruct? The reason Im asking is I can get a pre- alpa outdrive that was rebuilt with less then 10 hours on it for $100. And its close to my house, so I wouldnt have to pay for shipping. But if it wont work it wont work. What do you think?"
