Is the metal shaft where the steering cable is suppose to be removed from the engine mount. Otherwise how do you remove the steering cable?
 
" Take the steering linkage ar

" Take the steering linkage arm off and undo the large nut on the end of the motor steering tube. A lot of times if there is no room to withdraw the steering cable 'shaft', on smaller boats you come up against the gunwale, you have to unbolt the engine and slide it along the transom the opposite way to how you are trying to draw the steering ram out, and on occasion the engine needs to be lifted right off and turned slightly. I hope this makes sense? "
