" After running the motor for a period of time and then letting it sit for maybe half an hour while I fish, the motor will start, run, and then quit and won't restart. Sometimes the bulb on the fuel hose is hard, sometimes soft. I suspect it is either flooding or losing it's prime somehow. Any ideas? "

" Dick... Easy to tell if the carbs are flooding. Remove the carb face plate, then pump the fuel primer bulb up hard. Fuel will flow out of the carbs if they're flooding.

The questionable part about losing its prime can be eliminated by simply priming up the fuel primer bulb before attempting to start the engine when its hot.

Glance under the flywheel at the stator which is the beginning of both the charging and ignition system. Should that stator be cracked and leaking a sticky substance down upon the timer base and block, that would affect the ignition.

The stator emits approximately 300v AC which is needed to energize the powerpack(s). If the stator is failing, it may emit the proper voltage when cold, but will have a voltage drop when hot that causes the powerpack to temporarily fail. As the stator cools off, the voltage returns. Eventually it will fail altogether.

This may not be your problem but it's worth taking a look at.
