Cleaning Diesel Exhaust Pipe

After over a year

" Hi...

After over a year of chasing an overheating problem on our 1969 Albin AD2 engine, someone finally asked if we had had the exhaust system cleaned. They said that the constriction of the pipes caused by a build-up of soot, etc would cause the engine to not be able to shed some of the heat from the exhaust which would then cause an overheating situation.

It sounds reasonable to me, especially since the P.O. did not take the boat from her slip in the previous 5 years, although he started the engine and ran it for a while semi-regularly.

Question is, we have a trip planned for the upcoming holiday weekend and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do temporarilly (like tapping on the exhaust pipe while running the engine, or using Gum Out or some other solvent) which would help us get thru the weekend's activities???

HELP!!!

Thanks! Kip Columbia 36 "
