" I recently bought a boat with mercury engine 200 and I would like to know the following:
Serial No : A 148279.What is the year manufactured? When I start the engine and engage the gear, it quits. Pls. help as there is no mercury mechanic around my area.This is my first time using mercury engine.

You can go to mercurymarine.com and find the year by serial number also. I believe it's under the parts link.
