"Would you guys recomend putting an electronic ignition on a merc.470?? Would I get any benefits or is it not worth it? I was told it will give me a stronger spark,more horse power and better fuel economy,is that true?"

"The main advantage of electronic ignition is that it does not suffer from gradual deterioration of the points. With electronic ignition theoretically it is as if you had a distributor with points that were always perfectly set. Other than that the performance is basically equal.

Some people opt to continue using their points systems as they are familiar with them. Others feel more comfortable with not having to go into the distributor periodically. Really, that is the greater difference. The advantages of increased performance are usually exagerated."
