"Have '81 40 HP Mercury which starts fine and runs good. However when running full throttle it suddenly stalls and quits, usually after crossing a wake or in very rough water. It cranks again fairly easily and idles and runs well again. Any ideas on what the problem could be?"

sounds like a gas problems check gas lines filter fuel pump when the last time the carb was cleaned try some carb cleaner make sure there's good gas no water in it

i have a 84 mariner 40 hp it r

i have a 84 mariner 40 hp it runs fine in idol but will only run in gear with the choke on and runs very slow as soon as you let off the choke it stalls
