I have a Johnson 65 Electric

I have a Johnson 65 Electric man. # VXL 14B S/N J2934223 I have narrowed it down to late 60's
1. Can anyone pinpoint year for me?
2. Someone in the past has put an automobile coil on it due to the high cost of the proper coil. What problems does this cause? Should I replace the coil?

"Frank.... That engine's ignition system is a Battery Capacitance Discharge system, and somebody installed a regular 12v automotive coil within it? Not a good idea!

The OMC part numbers for the required coil are as follows:

Original OMC part #580688, superceeded up to new OMC #502882. Cost would be approximately $40.00.

frank does your engine have a pee hole if not where does the water come out i have a 1972 65hp johnson electric choke and the water only come out og these two holes on the lower unit do youor anybody know if this is how it's suppost to be or is somthing messed up
