I took my 1989 Yahama Pro 50

I took my 1989 Yahama Pro 50 in to have the lower unit resealed. I was told the bearing carrier is frozen in place due to corrosion and cannot be removed w/o risk of damage to the case.

Is there a trick for breaking loose a stuck carrier? I'm having a lot of water contamination after a few outings and would like to give it another try myself.

"Bill,

Usually the problem

"Bill,

Usually the problem is that the ring nut that tightens against the bearing carrier cannot be unscrewed.

If that is the problem the solution is to break the ring nut by drilling a few 1/8 inch holes so that you can hit it with a hammer and punch, and take the pieces apart.

If the carrier itself is stuck you have to use heat and a puller to free it up.

Thanks Tony. The ring nut wa

Thanks Tony. The ring nut was cut out and replaced by a new one but the shop could not get the carrier to break loose. I think they tried a little heat while pulling but they were concerned about warping the case.

I'll take the risk myself and soak the carrier overnight with PB Blaster and use more heat in combination with a puller at the end of the season.
