Troubleshooting 55hp Sea King outboard motor

I have a older[?] 55h

I have a older[?] 55hp Sea King that doesn't seem to run at full power.Sometimes I have to start the motor in gear while holding the electric choke on or it will die.It also doesn't run at low speeds very long.Would appreciate any input.
