Reversed battery leads

"74 135hp evinrude, while putting battery back in boat after being on charger overnight (no existing problem with battery, just had gone flat from not being used for a while) I managed to get the battery leads reversed, I knew this was not good. After properly installing battery motor started and ran as it should, however I am suspicious I have caused damage and am reluctant to take boat out, any thoughts. thanks"

"You have probably burnt out rectifier...small triangle shaped doo-hickey w/3 wires.. red yell and yell/gray...replace...it charges batt and your tach if u have one operates of of it,other than that,prob no damage."
