"Ken, I have never used a jack plate on a small motor but there should not be a problem using one. Jack plates work fine but there are a couple things to keep in mind. Due to the increased leverage they do put additional stress on the transom. Make sure your transom is sufficient to handle the extra load. Second, for every inch you go back off of the transom, you should raise the motor an additional 1/2".

The second rule is not carved in stone, especially on small motors, but the first is imperative.
