Yamaha 40 wont take load

92 Yam. 2cyl. - ok to 3/8 thr

92 Yam. 2cyl. - ok to 3/8 throttle. Won't take throttle. Wants to die. Cut back runs OK. Motor has been laid up last two years.

It sounds like you have a fuel problem. If you are sure that the fuel hose and primer bulb are okay, and that the fuel pump is operating, I would say that you should remove the carbs and clean everything. Pay close attention to the main and idle jets. When you remove the float bowl both are clearly visible. They screw into the carb body from the bottom. It would probably be a good idea to obtain rebuild kits before you take them apart.

Before you do this make sure that you are getting a full range of motion in the throttle linkage and throttle plates. Check the timing advance also for binding or seizing.
