" HAVING PURCHASED 2 NEW MOTOR

" HAVING PURCHASED 2 NEW MOTORS IN THE MIDDLE EAST (UAE) AND CAN NOT OBTAIN AN ANWSER FROM THE DEALER. HAVING ONLY RAN MOTORS FOR 20-25 HOURS ONE STARTER MOTOR WOULD SPIN OVER BUT NOT ENGAGE THE WITH THE FLYWHEEL. THIS WAS STRIPPED DOWN AND PARTS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THAN THE OTHER STARTER MOTOR DID THE SAME THING WHICH WAS AGAIN REBUILT UNDER WARRANTY, ON BOTH ENGINES IT WAS STILL POSIBLE TO START USING THE RIPCORD. HAVING BOTH STARTER MOTORS REPAIRED AND NOW AGAIN THEY STILL TEND TO ENGAGE THE BENDIX AND GEAR BUT REFUSE TO TURN THE FLYWHEEL. IS THERE A PROBLEM OR A MORE RELIABLE STARTER AVALIBLE TO FIT. BARE IN MIND YHE WARRANTY. THANKS "

" Holden,

Try moving the starter gear all the way up the shaft. Put a little bit of grease on the shaft under the gear. Don't use too much grease!

"Holden..... OMC (Evinrude

"Holden..... OMC (Evinrude/Johnson) did not manufactuer a V/6 with only 65hp. I suspect that you may be speaking of one of the older 65hp V/4 models? At any rate, use a voltmeter to see if you are indeed getting a true 12 volts to the starter motor when you engage it. Also, check all the wiring at the battery and at the engine (Battery Cables) to see if there may be a hot one when you encounter this problem. A hot cable would indicate that it is either loose, has dirty connections, and/or is failing internally within the cable insulation due to corossion. I'm guessing that since this problem occurred on both engines.... you are using the same instrument wiring harness, where your problem might exist. Get back to us with the year if you're sure of it.... or the model numbers of both engines.
