Been on quite a journey with this one. I got it for free with a sailboat purchase (mostly because the transom clamps were seized with the motor on the boat. The first adventure was getting it to run correctly. The carb was gummed up. I couldn't get it to run correctly with several cleaning so ended up buying an aftermarket carb off amazon and installed it today after having previously done oil service on lower unit and engine and checking the spark plugs. Seems to be running very well now.
But now a new problem. I can't seem to get it to shift. This is a tiller model so it appears the shifting happens as you twist the throttle either way for forward and reverse. The throttle does not twist either way unless I press the "Throttle only" button on the side. Then the throttle works as it should but it never shifts into gear.
I look at the gear linkage and I see no movement when I try to shift. It's almost as if it's frozen.
Am I missing an interlock somewhere? Any ideas on how to diagnose and check?
