Hello all! I am a young guy who picked up a 15hp Evinrude for my little 12ft fishing boat. It ran when I bought it but I wanted to do basic maintenance just for my own peace of mind. I have watched a ton of videos on youtube about rebuilding the carb and the water pump etc....so I have got a general idea of what to do.
I pulled the lower unit to replace the water pump and this is what I found....is it supposed to look like this? The area where the gear linkage is caked in something....all the examples I've seen online were spotless.
Also, is this metal screen supposed to be in the grooves?
Thanks. The upper is in much better shape. Was able to rebuild carb easily. The lower unit is clearly a different story.
